ANSI Electric Vehicle Standards Panel, November 2014

In order to assess the standards and conformance programs needed to facilitate the safe, mass deployment of EVs and charging infrastructure in the United States, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) convened the Electric Vehicles Standards Panel (ANSI EVSP or “the Panel”).The decision to form the Panel was made at a meeting of key stakeholders in March 2011 which ANSI convened in response to suggestions that the U.S. standardization community needed a more coordinated approach to keep pace with electric vehicle initiatives moving forward in other parts of the world. This effort draws upon participants from the automotive, utilities, and electrotechnical sectors as well as from standards developing organizations (SDOs or “developers”) and government agencies. In April 2012, the ANSI EVSP released the Standardization Roadmap for Electric Vehicles – Version 1.0 (“roadmap”).

The goals of this update to the roadmap remain the same, namely to:
1. Facilitate the development of a comprehensive, robust, and streamlined standards and conformance landscape; and
2. Maximize the coordination and harmonization of the standards and conformance environment domestically and with international partners.
